This paper mainly discusses the algorithm of detecting moving vehicles in passive ranging on highway.Firstly ,the area of road and its edges can be detected by the homogeneity. Then ,the color images of the area of road can be translated into the HSI color space and be segmented in the space. Finally , on the base of the color segmentation and some pre-experience ,the moving car can be detected in the area of road.
