An analytic method is proposed for analyzing the characteristic of TE modes in a five-layer planar waveguides. The waveguides consists of two parallel dielectric films separated by a nonlinear film and bounded on both sides by linearmedia. The dispersion relations are derived, and the formulas for the field distribution and op tical powers are presented. A symmetry examp le is given and discussed.
