It is the very important for improving the output of double-clad optical fibers laser to enlarge the diameter of optical fiber, and it is also an importance thing to analysis the confinement of the fiber. In the paper the confinement factor for square-power gain-guiding optical fibers is focused on while the optical wave being guided in gain and refraction, the form of the fields is given at first for the new type of optical fiber, then the expressions of confinement factor is obtained from Poynting’s theorem, one can obtain the range of the confinement factor by numerical recipes. The conclusion reveals that the confinement factor of square-power gain-guiding optical fibers is larger than the one of step-profile gain-guiding fiber, and the output power of double-clad optical fibers laser will improve higher if using this new type optical fiber.
