For infrared search and track system(IRST),the operation range when the system works in the search mode is an critical specification.Based on the theoretical analysis about the mechanism of energy integration on the IR detector,an equation illustrating the relationship between the search range and the scan velocity is deduced.It offers a tool to design or evaluate the performance of an IRST.
