Military targets are seriously threatened by high energy laser weapon, so it’s important to research the protective technology against high energy laser. Based on the analysis of the basic theory of protective materials against high energy laser, the protective principle and research status of three typical protective materials are discussed, which are based on the three-order nonlinear effect, thermal phase transition and the coaction of multiple effects. Moreover, the development of nonlinear protective materials against high energy laser is prospected.
