The phase difference phenomenon of Nd∶YVO4 laser in birefringence external cavity feedback,which caused by inserting the wave plate in the feedback external cavity,was experimentally and theoretically studied. The displacement measurement system of Nd∶YVO4 laser birefringence external cavity feedback based on the phase difference phenomenon was set up. The subdivision counting of the signal generated by the displacement measurement system was performed by using the subdivision count method of fringe to achieve a precise measurement of the displacement. The Nd∶YVO4 laser birefringent external cavity feedback measurement system was compared with the Agilent interferometer. The comparison results show that the resolution of the system is 26.6 nm,the linearity is 6.223×10-5 within the 14 mm measuring range and the standard deviation is 0.372 μm.
