Abstract:Semiconductor materials can normally absorb a photon with an energy greater than the band gap,allowing one electron in the valence band to transition to the conduction band.However,in certain circumstances,semiconductor materials can absorb several photons with the energy less than the bandgap,so that an electron in the valence band transition to the conduction band,which is the multiphoton absorption effect.Multiphoton absorption effect is a kind of non linear optical effect.First,the theoretical basis and experimental methods of multiphoton absorption effect are introduced.Then the research progress of multiphoton absorption effect on semiconductor materials is reviewed.Finally,the research on multiphoton absorption effect in low dimensional semiconductor structure and the potential application of multiphoton absorption effect on semiconductor device are summarized and prospected.
